Druckhaus Berlin-Mitte joins the Brandenburg Environmental Partnership

Großbeeren. Brandenburg's Secretary for Agriculture and Environment Dietmar Schulze presented Herbert Preißler, manager of Druckhaus Berlin-Mitte, with a certificate of participation in the Brandenburg Environmental Partnership.

Druckhaus Berlin-Mitte is now also part of a group of businesses that distinguish themselves with their special commitment to sustainable, environmentally friendly operations, said Schulze.

The Brandenburg Environmental Partnership started in 1999, based on an agreement between businesses and the state government. Participation requirements include a working environmental management department and other high environmental demands. Participating business may advertise with the Environmental Partnership logo, receive relief in carrying out administrative initiatives, and may participate in the deregulation of environmental law.

Druckhaus Berlin-Mitte GmbH, which emerged from the former Druckkombinat Berlin, has developed into a high-capacity and innovative business. One of the company's main goals is the fusion of economy and ecology. As a result, the print office adopted the European Eco-Audit EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) in 2002. In taking part in EMAS, Druckhaus Berlin-Mitte confirms the use of the most stringent of all established environmental management systems, contributes much more to environmental and resource protection than is lawfully required, and saved costs and resources.

Schulze expressed the hope that more and more businesses and establishments would adopt EMAS. ?This voluntary system allows a much more effective contribution to environmental protection than just adhering to goverment and tax regulations. The example of Druckhaus Berlin-Mitte GmbH shows that ecological commitment and business success don't need to cancel eachother out. The opposite is true: Only the systematic reduction of resource wastage makes an economical future possible,? he said.

Schulze recognized the Brandenburg Environmental Partnership as an ?effective instrument for the producing of voluntary environmental services, for the dialogue between economy and government and for the simplification of environmental law.?
